Who is Cate Brennan?

I’m just like you. I’m an average person who wants to make my community and Texas a better place. Here’s my story so you understand who you are voting for.

I’ve lived in North Texas for more than 50 years, almost my entire life. I’ve loved all those around me. I’ve raised my family, made good friends, worked hard, and volunteered in my community. I’m also an idealist. I believe we are better people when we embrace our differences and work together for the common good. You don’t have to be a Democrat or liberal to vote for me. You just have to desire change that benefits people—especially children—and less manufactured drama that divides us.

I grew up going to and graduating from public schools. I paid my college tuition by waiting tables, student loans and Pell grants. I started at community college and then graduated from University of North Texas. Twenty years later I received my MBA from Texas Woman’s University. I believe public education is the greatest pathway to success and prosperity. I believe in great, fully-funded public schools. I believe private school vouchers are a direct assault on our public schools, our community, our safety, our future prosperity, and democracy.

I’m a mom of an adult son who struggled with dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD. I’m incredibly proud of the man he’s become and how he overcame those challenges. When his public elementary school couldn’t provide the intensive instruction he needed, we reluctantly moved him to private school. Private school is always a choice for parents. I believe that public tax money should not fund private schools. I'm a 20-year PTA veteran.

I’m a dog mom of two shelter dogs and live in Grapevine with my long-time partner. My two sisters, also in Grapevine, and I are caregivers to our senior stepmother. I’m also a Tarrant County poll worker, community organizer and volunteer. I’m a candidate for public office because I’m sincerely grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. Now it’s time for me to make things better for the next generation by serving in the Texas Legislature.

I worked hard and sacrificed to be a successful business executive before my retirement. Professionally, I spent 30 years in nonprofit management, primarily with healthcare related organizations. I’ve managed multi-million-dollar budgets, so I know finance. Texas is in a healthcare crisis. Texas ranks dead last in the number of uninsured people. Texas ranks 35th out of 50 states in maternal and infant mortality, and it’s getting worse. OB/GYN professionals are leaving the state, and who can blame them. They are threatened with jail time or license revocation if they perform life-saving procedures or abortions. The result is delayed and denied health care. Women have died and had their long-term health greatly compromised. Listen, no one wants to have an abortion, not under any circumstances. But these are extremely personal decisions that should be made between a woman, her faith, and her healthcare provider. 

My reasons for running have become more sharply focused over the past months to include affordable housing, food and energy, data center repercussions, and personal privacy. I am running to stop the erosion of our personal freedom and autonomy. I take a Libertarian view of personal autonomy, meaning I believe that government should not interfere with your personal choices in your private life. I care deeply about personal autonomy: to have a family or not, to use IVF or not, to marry who you want, to live as you believe is best for you as an individual, and for everyone to practice the religion of your choice or not at all. 

In summary, why should you vote for me? Because I’m a pragmatic idealist and optimist who believes we can build a better Texas where our children and communities prosper, where we respect and embrace our differences, and where HD98 looks toward the future—not the past. I am grateful for the incredible support my campaign has gained from the people of Grapevine, Euless, Southlake, Keller, Colleyville, and Westlake, and I ask for your vote on Nov. 3 or during early voting.

Why I'm Running to be Your State Rep

“Over my dead body” was my first reaction when I realized HD98 might not have a real choice for state representative in Austin. I was raised to believe leadership means showing up, doing what’s right, standing up for kids and working families, and finding practical solutions that protect our future. You can count on me to fight for:

1. Strong public schools where children can learn from experienced teachers using proven, unbiased curriculum. Our schools should be safe, fully funded, and guided by local communities—not by efforts to divert public dollars to private schools or inject religion and politics into the classroom.

2. Relief for families facing rising costs—from housing and property taxes to electricity, insurance, health care, gas, and child care—not special favors for corporations and special interests.

3. Accessible, high-quality physical and mental health care—especially for children, new mothers, and people with disabilities—not denied care, delayed and crisis treatment, and crushing medical debt.

4. Supporting good jobs, living wages, smart economic growth, and a stronger, more diversified tax base—not layoffs caused by AI and outdated budget priorities that favor corporations and special interests.

5. Integrity, transparency, independent leadership, and practical results—not chaos, corruption, or political favoritism.
